Introducing Favorite Fridays

Hi, ABR followers!

I would like to introduce a new concept to my blog: Favorite Fridays. My thinking is, I know there are a lot of you out there that have done DIY projects that you are proud of, and don't have the time to write a blog, or do, but would like to share on my blog. Soooooo if you have a DIY project or room that you have done send some pics ( before and after would be nice, but anything will do- inspiration, just after, multiple views, etc) to me with an explanation and I will post one DIY from readers every Friday. Be sure to send me a link to your blog if you do have a blog!

Master Bathroom

After: new lights and mirrors

Before: 3 mirrors, and I can't believe I didn't get a photo of the show girl light fixtures above the 3 mirrors.  Oh yes 3 mirrors. As if two wasn't enough.

new mirrors and light fixtures- lights off. Also, my victorian DIY frame.

I still have a few changes I want to make. I already bought new hardware.
And I have fixed the tub area up, just haven't taken pics! Will do soon!

Guest Bathroom Design

before (this is the previous owners' set up)

after- ahhh no red.

much better

The blue is bright. and I love it. The first makeover picture represents the color the best. I have since changed the knobs on the vanity, but have yet to take pics.  I have plans to eventually change the whole vanity( or at least paint the oak colored cabs), but DIY lights and mirror scratched the  bathroom make over itch for a while. Plus, I have to have something to look forward to:-)

* please note, that while I am an artist, I am not a photographer. and small spaces are extremely hard to photograph. My shower curtain is a simple white waffle print-white.

Cultural Self Portraits and Mystery Monet

The Mystery Monet
Mystery Monet Project was a small section of a famous Monet print that the students glued somewhere on their paper and had to finish the rest. The students really enjoyed making up their painting.

Then, we had to pick out the actually Monet print in which their piece came from and compare.  A nice way to lead into critiques. ( I would have more pictures, but forgot- these were students who were absent the day I passed back the work).

(To start the students picked their section from a box in which they couldn't see in to. They could switch it out once, but if they decided to switch, they had to keep their second pick.)
 Cultural Self-Portrait
students picked a culture to research, and turned themselves into that culture ( respectfully).

again, forgot to take pictures until they were already taken home.

Special Plate

My hubby and I made three of these last spring (2 were wedding presents) on our spring break in Florida. A rainy day took us to one of those do-it-yourself pottery places.  And I am just now getting around to posting a picture.  We use it for all special occasions. And I love it, so I wanted to share how art is also the best part of my day:-)

Living Room for Now

Look at the transformation:-)
before view from dining room

before fire place
after view from the kitchen (flash on/night time)

View of fireplace. We took down the bulky mantle and I painted the wood around the fireplace black. My husband (and dad) spent 4 hours switching out the gaudy fan for this chic beauty.  I will have another post on the sconces you see on either side of the photograph.

 Daytime photos...
not quite sure what to hang on some of the walls, if anything??

the fold out table is temporary, haven't found anything I love yet.
(photo taken during the day- probably a more accurate paint color)

view from hallway. small tv is to the right of the pic.

My sofa/section is from Lane furniture (its the rotating picture on the home page). We bought it at a Furniture store called Guynn's and they have a store in Hillsville, Galax, Wytheville, and Independence, VA. It was the perfect compromise for me and my hubby. He wanted a sectional, I wanted separate pieces so I could rearrange often. This piece brakes into 6 separate pieces and you can set it up in TONS of different ways. I loooove it. It only came in grey or brown, and I was desperate for a darker gray sofa! Perfect! I plan on recovering the pillows with some fabric I bought from Above All Fabric. Just need a sewing machine...
