Thanksgiving From Cellular

Sadie flew back to Virginia with Tee and I for our first Thanksgiving together. She is an excellent traveler- never whines. On the flight back I just took her out of her bag, wrapped her up like a baby in a blanket and no one ever noticed. She can't wait for Christmas! Here are a few pics from my phone- more to come from my real camera!

Sadie helping/distracting Tee from homework. She loves getting her chin scratched
Max and Sadie tuckered out- the picture with them facing me is all blurry:-( But Sadie and Max got along muuuuch better. Meaning she didn't cry out every time he tackled her. In fact, Sadie started to dominate Max several times over the break. She stole his bone, his food, pushed him off the couch and growled at him if he came near any of my or her stuff (such as her portable crate- which she actually hates). Even through all of that Max loves her and she really loves him- she is just playing hard to get.

Waiting to get on the plane! We got there 2 hours early because I am OCD about being early, the flight back however, was barely made ( no further comment). This is before we shoved 3 ML of Benadryl down Sadie's throat- half of which was spit back out on Tee's jacket.

Nana Visits

Here is the sole picture of Sadie and my mom when she came to visit. They spent lots of time together- I think Sadie loves her more than me:-)

Who's that dog?

na na nanana. So I was looking at my blog, and sadie was sitting on my shoulder (yes, I wonder if she is a parrot sometimes) and was staring down my new gadget the "Daily Dog." You would have thought I was cheating on her, she had this expression of "hey i thought this blog was about me!" in her eyes. she's too cute. I could never cheat on her. Just look how cute she is looking out the window at a squirrel!

oh and in other news about Sadie- her Nana comes tomorrow, and she doesn't know it yet, but she can't wait! My mom is coming up from Dallas to spend a few days with me in Okie city, and I think my mom may be more excited about seeing Sadie than me. She has mentioned at least 5 times that she would be happy to walk Sadie or dog sit if I needed to run any errands while she was here. Sadie just loves her nana.

One more thing... I have the lovely flu that is going around. And if you haven't hear there has been a recent case of H1N1 found in a cat! Fortunatley, no cases reported in dogs yet, but needless to say I am hoping Sadie doesn't catch it from me! Sick dogs are just sooo sad!

Sadie Graduates!

Sadie graduated this past Saturday- and at the top of her class as the "dean's honor grad!" I am a proud mommy- and I think a 3 week trick class at K9 university is next!

Unfair Play

I am a bad mom...Today I was in an intense game of fetch with Sadie and her "snakey" when I accidently SMACKED the crap out of her jaw when trying to throw it. At first she was shocked and ducked her head ( of course I am apologizing profusely) and then she actualy let out a small growl...not really at me but I think more at the fact that she got hurt.

Not only that...I decided to move on to something softer-my scarf. Well, I had it wrapped up in my hands and just as I was attacking her with it she leaped forward and WACK...right in the face.

After that Sadie wanted nothing to do with me.

* Sadie is now cuddled up to me- thank goodness for short doggy memories!

Venting

Okay...so Sadie is clearly a sissy dog. But it seems like EVERY older man loves to call her "vicious" or "killer." At the first 100 times I laughed a genuine laugh, but today I just couldn't force it as this elderly gentlemen in a Mercedes convertible yelled it out his window at me..."That's a VISCIOUS dog you got!" I just stared at him and said "ha. ha." and rolled my eyes. Anyway, I don't know what your deal is old man, but leave me and Lady Sadie alone, she is NOT fierce, and you are NOT original.

Happy Saturday!

Today our little family + Aunt Jenna went to lunch at Bella Isle and then to this event sponsored by Red Dirt Boxer Rescue at Ray Trent Dog Park. We thought it would be good for some socialization for the Sadie girl. Well, right as we showed up there was a "cutest dog competition" and all we had to do was walk in front of 4 judges. Well we didn't win (2 boxers did) but I was so proud of my girl:-) SOrry I didn't get any pics- I forgot my camera in the car! Oh well!

My girl!

I can't get enough of her!

Window Shopping

...more like window watching. I opened the windows today because it is GORGEOUS outside! Read: no wind, cool (but not cold) fresh air. Probably the only nice day we'll have all year here in Oklahoma. Sadie likes to look out the window at the people walking by...I like to watch her:-)

First Day of Beginners Obedience

Sitting on her own...if only we could do that when commanded too:-)
Last week I finally decided to call the K9 University I drive past everyday on the way to and from work. Today was the first day of the class. 9am Sat. Well, Tee and I almost slept through the class because we've been sick, but fortunately Sadie woke me up just in time to get ready and make it on time. On the way there Tee gave Sadie a pep talk "You gotta make valedictorian!" I was saying "Please just graduate!" Well, valedictorian does not look promising, we think she might be in the bottom three (that is if this was American Idol). She sucks at heeling and down, in fact, add sit to that list.

Training Philosophy

Here is the thing...we started off with treat training. The method they use at the school- which Tee and I think is the best way in the end, is "fun training." (The third method is fear...usually movie star dogs are this). So when Sadie responds to a correction such as "sit" she is rewarded with verbal praise and touch (petting). The reason we think this is the best method in the end, is because you don't always have treats on you, and Sadie is VERY picky about her treat selection. However, before she always got a treat when we asked her to sit or lay down, so she was very confused and scared when a treat was not offered.

Improvement

We have homework everyday with training: 10 minutes of work; and 10 minutes of reward play. Today I took her on a walk, and she really did much better with "heel." She is starting to figure out "sit" in the new way. I didn't even bother with down again- it was disastrous in class. Maybe tomorrow.

Wish us luck- I'll keep you posted on her ranking in the class!
