Holiday Artist Market Prep

Chestnut Creek School of the Arts hosts a Holiday Artist Market every year from Thanksgiving to New Year's and this year I am joining 40 other local artisans in selling handmade crafts/art.

I wanted to do this last year, just wasn't sure what to make. So this year I said yes and then decided on making Handmade Baby Items, Busy Books, and advertising a new thing I am starting - Custom Watercolor Family Portraits. I may also add a really cute idea I had for ornaments. I am hoping to have a half a dozen of each item, but if you are wanting any of these before Christmas I am taking a very limited number of custom orders, as I am about 7 weeks out from having a baby and am not about to out do myself! OR you can swing by the artist market From Thanksgiving weekend until January 2016 and check out what I have in my inventory and all of the other cool local art!

Oil Pastel/Water Color Fun

For my art two students (mostly 9th graders) I decided to let them pick two different compositions to do watercolor on one and oil pastel on the other to practice different techniques. The water color had to be some sort of architecture and the oil pastel had to be an animal or flower. Here are the results!

Japanese Koi

I am pretty proud of myself. Normally for lesson plans I borrow from blogs, magazines, websites, etc. While koi fish are a coomon subject for artist, I feel like I had fairly original take on this project!
Students first practiced drawing the koo fish and learned about the symbolism of the fish. Then, they drew them on watercolor paper and drew 4 verticle lines top to bottom. Students then painted each vertical section with either warm or cool colors and in the next did the opposite color scheme. I LOVE THE RESULTS!

My camera is done...so I only have my camera phone...the good thing its 8megapixles and its always charged. However, the first semester is about to end and I have at least 10 projects I need to upload! I decided to do the celtic project with my art ones from now on.

Celtic Roads Finished!

Celtic Roads

start with a piece of paper folded in four and draw a design in which the design goes off the edges that are folded and don't go off the loose edges.

trace over the design with a 6b or ebony pencil and fold the design over to the other quarter of the white paper. Rub the back until design lightly transfers. May need to use finger nail. Go over the now half page design again withtheebony pencil and then fold the whole shee in half so the design is on the inside,and then rub the back so the design transfers again. Then tape the celtic design, pencil side down to your final paper,and trace over the design with a regular pencil to transfer the design.

Trace over the transferred design with sharpie, and then color in with prisma colored pencils, colored pencils, or crayon.

Water color in a splatter/tie dye wet in to wet manner.
