Color Wheel Mandalas

I always like to start out the year with a refresher on color. It is crucial that students understand how to mix color for the rest of the year, and about 85% of my classes forget color mixing over the summer.

For ArtII I didn't want to do a basic color wheel, so I decided to incorporate a mandala lesson. The inner circle is the basic color wheel, the middle circle is color plus black, and the outer circle is color plus white. So we discussed shades and tones, as well! They only used primary colors and black and white.
I think the results turned out beautiful, but it did take a lot of individual explanations.

Andy Warhol -Pop-Art Animals

If you haven't noticed...I haven't posted in a long time, but I have been taking pics. The problem was I didn't have the time to "transfer" the pictures from my school computer to home, so I could blog. In the mean time discovered the wonderful world of picasa. I didn't realize how easy it was to use! So today I am trying to catch up. Sorry to over load you!! But better all at once then not at all!

Students had a posterized image of an animal they saved and edited at http://www.picnik.com/. Then with a grid drawing transferred it four times (light table would come in handy). Really cool results. Took about a week of 1.5 hour blocks.

Art Focus: Circle Print

I stole this idea from another blog, only it was a while ago so I don't remember who...sorry:-( Anyway, I really loved the results even though we ended up running out of school year before we finished. What we did was dipped styrofome cups in black tempera and then stamped them onto an 18x24 sheet of paper, then painted each section with whatever colors they wanted. Some students chose a color scheme, some mixed all different colors together, and some went totally paint crazy:-)
